| Tasting Notes: Aromas of blueberry, ripe blackberry, with slight smokiness and a whiff of black pepper. The fruit quality in the flavors becomes ripe blackberry and sweet blueberry, with notes of smoky bacon and spicy vanilla oak. The intense fruit character carries into the finish with lingering oak and black pepper. |
| Winemaker's Notes: This vintage of Syrah reminds me a good deal of the 2002, with some vineyard site specific flavors and aromas, although slightly more generous on the fruit character than 2002. For me, it is reminiscent of Syrah from the Northern Rhone. I chose specific barrels of Estate Syrah for this bottling to emphasize that distinct quality. The entire block of vineyard was picked with nice mature flavors, and fermented in our rotary fermenter. The rotary speeds fermentation, promoting ripe fruit characters and softer tannins. This wine was aged for 24 months in a combination of old and new French Oak. Bottled in August 2006. 600 cases made. |
